Major League Baseball released its penultimate update for National League All Star voting on Wednesday morning and Giants catcher Buster Posey is trailing Yadier Molina by less than 100,000 votes. The Cubs have a stranglehold on most positions, with Chicago players holding down the top spots at five different positions, including all four infield spots.

Posey’s 1.1 million votes are the most among Giants players, but Brandon Belt, Joe Panik, Matt Duffy, and Brandon Crawford are all in the top 5 in votes at their positions as well. Posey started last year’s game for the senior circuit, as well as the 2012 game.

With the Cubs players all holding commanding leads, it seems that Posey is the only Giants position player with a realistic shot at becoming an All Star starter. This year’s game will be held in San Diego on Tuesday, July 12. The final voting update before the starters are announced will come out on June 27, and voting is open until June 30.
