MLB released the first round of National League fan-balloting results for the 2016 All-Star Game on Wednesday. No Giants starters lead at their respective positions, but San Francisco has a player in the top five at every position except outfield, with Hunter Pence in ninth place.
In the closest race involving a Giant, Buster Posey trails Yadier Molina by less than 100,000 votes. While Molina has been selected to the All-Star Game in each of the previous seven seasons, Posey was voted the starting catcher for the National League in 2015 and, if selected again, would be on the All-Star roster for the fourth time.
Posey leads Molina in batting average, home-runs and RBIs this season, and also has thrown out four more would-be base stealers than Molina in the same number of attempts.
Last season, Brandon Crawford, Joe Panik and Madison Bumgarner joined Posey as reserves in the All-Star Game.
