MERLIN OLSENMERLIN OLSEN

Merlin Olsen, a Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive lineman who was part of the Los Angeles Rams' famed "Fearsome Foursome" of the 1960s, has died after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 69. Olsen was part of the Rams' defensive line famously known as the "Fearsome Foursome" along with Roosevelt Grier, Deacon Jones and Lamar Lundy. Jones also is a member of the Hall of Fame. The line set an NFL record during a 14-game season in 1968 for the fewest yards allowed.

The 31st Annual Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame Enshrinement Banquet will honor five remarkable Bay Area sports legends. Brian Boitano, Bert “Campy” Campaneris, Al Davis, Stephen Negoesco and R. C. “Alley Oop” Owens. The Enshrinement Banquet will be held March 22, 2010, at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco. The banquet begins with a pre-event cocktail party, followed by dinner and induction of the Enshrinees in the Ballroom. For more information, contact BASHOF at (415) 296-5606 or nkrueger@bashof.org. Proceeds from the Enshrinement Banquet will go towards “helping kids play sports.”
