Pablo Sandoval has played all over the diamond this year for the Giants, including a surprise appearance at pitcher. Now, he will be able to add another position to the list.
Sandoval will make his first career start at second base Sunday against the Chicago Cubs, according to Kerry Crowley of the Bay Area News Group:
Career games by position for Pablo Sandoval

The move was hinted at earlier when reports surfaced that Sandoval was taking ground balls at second in preparation for potentially playing there. Kelby Tomlinson has largely been filling in at second for the injured Alen Hanson, who replaced Joe Panik after Panik’s injury. Panik is expected to be due back in about a week and starts a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento Monday. Hanson, meanwhile, is expected to start in an extended spring training game Monday and then appear with the San Jose Giants Wednesday.
Sandoval will be using one of Brandon Crawford’s extra gloves in Sunday’s game.
