Another day, another report that the Giants are inching closer to signing the reigning NL MVP.
Today it comes via MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, who’s reporting that the Giants and Marlins have had ‘deeper discussions’ on a trade for Giancarlo Stanton, and that San Francisco is the favorite over the St. Louis Cardinals to land the outfielder.
Source says Marlins and Giants have had “deeper discussions” on a Giancarlo Stanton deal. Believes Giants are favorites to land the NL MVP, though Cardinals may still be a factor.

This report comes on the heels of Ken Rosenthal reporting last week that the Giants have made an official trade offer for Stanton, the details of which were revealed on Monday by Craig Mish, who reported that the Giants asked for both Stanton and Dee Gordon in exchange for Joe Panik, Tyler Beede, Chris Shaw and (it is assumed) agreeing to take on the lion’s share of Stanton’s $295 million contract.

Mish said on KNBR yesterday that the Marlins’ primary concern is offloading Stanton’s contract that lasts through 2027 (with a club option for 2028) which is why they’d be willing to part with Stanton for minimal return.
