Nunez’s emotional message to Giants’ fans as he leaves for Boston

By

Eduardo Nunez admitted it was a little bit strange to find out in the 5th inning of a game with his current team in San Francisco, that he’d been traded to the city of Boston.

It wasn’t quite as dramatic as Wilmer Flores and the Mets a few years back, but his uneasiness was certainly understandable.

What was slightly more unpredictable was Nunez’s emotional reaction to leaving the Giants’ clubhouse, and the fans he’s apparently grown to love enough to shed a few tears upon his departure.

Take a look courtesy of our friends at NBC Sports Bay Area.

Full transcription with Amy G:

Amy: I just told Eduardo I’m not happy about this. But it’s not about me, it’s about you. You’ve been traded to Boston, they’re in first place. You get to go to a contender, what’s your initial reaction to the news?

Eduardo: You know the first reaction [this sucks]. You leave your family, you leave your brothers here, this is a great group, great organization, great staff, I really enjoy to be here, and that sucks. But at the same time it’s exciting to enjoy another team, a different place, you gonna work and compete for a championship.

Amy: We obviously caught the news during the game, we had cameras on you and you received a hug from every single person on the roster, everybody loves you, was it a little bit strange to find out in the middle of the game?

Eduardo: For sure. We win the game, we enjoyed the game, and then they tell me the news and I’m like ‘oh my God.’ And they don’t even tell me where I’m going, they just tell me in the game I think you gonna trade right now, I don’t know were. I’m almost gonna cry, seriously.

Amy: I totally understand. Well, we know how much you love it in San Francisco, you’ve made that very clear. The fact of the matter is you are a free agent after his season and I know you need to focus on where you’re going but do you leave a possibility to come back here in 2018?

Eduardo: For sure, I would love to. It’s a great organization, great city, great fans. I love the family here, they are my brothers, true brothers. Sure, we look forward.

Amy: Message to the fans, Eduardo?

Eduardo: I’m sad. I leave you guys and thank you for everything, you gave me a lot of support and I know it’s not a great year for the organization, but you guys [have] been amazing.
